ATR Group renews focus on core business with sale
THE ATR Group has sold its engineering division, for an undisclosed figure, as it focuses on maximising the success of its core business in the plant, lifting and tool rental marketplace.
TDC (Aberdeen) Ltd has purchased ATR Engineering, based at Pitmedden Road, Dyce, which offers services including turning, milling, boring and drilling as well as manufacturing of ATEX-certified equipment.
The sale further strengthens ATR Group's growth strategy, already bolstered by more than £2million of investment and the appointment of new directors Mike Robertson and Tom Barr, all targeted towards making the North Sea and Caspian market leader a global player.
Managing director, Keith Moorhouse, says the sale of ATR Engineering allows the group to concentrate all of its efforts on its core activities in the specialist disciplines of tool rental, plant and lifting services.
"We are continuing to build on our already strong position and we feel the sale of ATR Engineering will help our continued growth in the market gather more pace," he says.
"As a responsible business and employer, it was important to us that we found the right place to help move engineering forward. TDC (Aberdeen) Ltd is a without a doubt the best place for ATR Engineering to continue to grow and succeed.
"The rental marketplace has huge potential given the ongoing instabilities in the global economy and that has influenced our decision to focus on that business stream.
"We are continuing to build on what has been a very successful two years and feel that we are in an ideal position to drive the company further forward."
Mr Moorhouse thanked ATR Engineering's dedicated staff for their hard work as the business transfers to the new owner.

The purchase of ATR Engineering will provide TDC (Aberdeen) Ltd with a team of highly skilled mechanical and machine shop engineers, managed by Fred Crawford who has more than 40 years experience in precision engineering services. Along with a team of qualified electrical engineers specialising in the bespoke manufacture of hazardous area products, led by Bob Stevenson who has in excess of 30 years experience in the field.
Mrs McNeil added: "The purchase brings additional benefits to the services currently provided by TDC (Aberdeen) Ltd, which include electrical, mechanical and marine electronic services, along with the rewind and repair of electric motors, generators and transformers.
"The deal further enhances the service we offer to customers in the oil and shipping sectors, and local industries within the North East."
ATR Group is the market leader in the rental of specialised tools and equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry maintenance market, operating throughout the North Sea and UKCS, and the Caspian region.
